Arlington County Dairy Company
The Arlington County Dairy was located at 2701 Wilson Blvd from 1925 until sold to the Alexandria County Dairy in 1945.
In 1925, a $35,000 pasteurizing and dairy plant was built in Arlington by the Marcey Brothers (Julius, Curtis, and Harvey Lee) on the corner of Wilson Blvd and Holly Street (modern-day Danville Street), in the Clarendon section of Arlington.
Julius was the president of the company. Their original dairy was at 1240 28th Street NW in the Georgetown section of Washington, DC. It went by "Cherrydale Dairy" and "Julius Marcey Dairy". It was located there from about 1906 to 1925.
The Arlington County Dairy was located at 2701 Wilson Blvd from 1925 until sold to the Alexandria County Dairy in 1945. It was built at a time when Arlington was still rural, and there were still plenty of dairy farms
One well-known farm called "Reevesland." Purchased in 1866 by William H. Torreyson, this 171-acre farm was run by the same family for 89 years. Torreyson's daughter Lucy, and her husband George Reeves, were the second generation to operate the farm. Their son Nelson and his wife Louise were the third generation operating the farm until 1955. Today Reevesland is a designated Arlington County Landmark.
